General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has debunked rumours of growing tension between President John Mahama and Asiedu Nketia.
According to the Chronicle newspaper, Asiedu Nketiah is irate about the president snubbing his recommended candidates for government positions after he played a fundamental role in the NDC’s 2024 victory by touring almost every corner of the country.
Reports coming from the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) have also revealed President Mahama has snubbed a list from the Chairman of the party.
It has also been revealed that Asiedu Nketiah has reported President Mahama to the NDC’s party’s elders with a crisis meeting scheduled to address the growing tension.
The information gathered also suggests the crisis meeting will also be attended by the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to find prompt action to determine the developing dispute between President Mahama and Chairman Asiedu Nketia.
The happening has supposedly generated tension within the party, with several constituency executives going to see Asiedu Nketiah in his office to express their displeasure with the president’s appointments.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s New Day, Fifi Kwetey stated, “There is no tension, these things are normal. The fact is that people are looking for positions, and if somebody doesn’t have a position, naturally, the person is not happy, so you hear instances like that.
Tensions, the fact is that you can never have a hundred percent agreement on everything in government it is not possible, I can tell you, the president himself is not every single person that the president may want in a particular place that he can get”, he added.
He further detailed, “There are instances the president may want Roland, but when the conversation is had, the president says in the light of this conversation, I think my original position is one that I have to take back, and there have been instances.
Some people are in positions today, whether as ministers who originally were not supposed to be there based on the original situation, upon second thought, changes were made, it is always a give and take. Some of these speculations are coming from people who may be possibly disgruntled because they wanted some particular thing”, Fifi Kwetey added.
