Communications Team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Mahama has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for unleashing their attack dogs on the ruling government.
He described the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye DC as one such dogs of the party.
According to him, Abronye DC has always made it a point to disrespect President John Mahama, describing Abronye DC as a waste of time.
“Abronye is a waste of Ghanaians time. Let me land, I have not insulted him. I am saying this because I you have followed his career for a while and prior to the 2016 elections, this was his modus operandi. When they (NPP) came to power, they used him to continuously tarnish John Mahama’s image. He did that both in opposition and in power. There is no single allegation Abronye levelled against John Dramani Mahama which he was ever able to prove,” he stated.
He described Abronye’s constant defamation and insults targeted at John Mahama as excessive.
“It has become one too many. If I will not lie, about 3 years to the last election, Abronye didn’t go on radio or television stations but today, they are in opposition so they have gone to open their dogs to now come after Mahama.”
The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has invited Abronye DC to appear before them on February 26, 2025, regarding allegations he made against President John Dramani Mahama.
He is required to provide evidence supporting his claims that President Mahama is withholding GH¢550 million meant for dismissed appointees at the Jubilee House.
Abronye reportedly made these claims during his appearance on Accra-based Movement Television, where he also accused the government of corruption in recruitment and revocation processes.
These recent actions by the NIB have sparked discussions about the agency’s approach toward prominent NPP members.
Already, Abronye has accused the NIB of bias in the discharge of its duties, questioning the basis of the investigation and alleging selective application of the law.
Speaking in a separate interview Abronye DC stated, “There was money intended for those employees whose appointment letters have been terminated, and no government will recruit for that budgeting. So I’ll go and face them. I haven’t seen the criminal element of that. So they said I should come and assist them in the investigation. So let’s go and then take it from there.”
He further expressed concerns about the motive behind the invitation, suggesting it could be an attempt to stifle free speech.
“Then after that, we can read meaning to their invitation, whether they are trying to reintroduce the culture of silence that everybody spoke against some time ago. I don’t see the criminal element of this issue for NIB to take or invite me to assist them when the current government appointees have made wild allegations, and the Director of NIB hasn’t invited any of them,” he pointed out.
Abronye DC also accused the security agency of selective investigations, pointing to unaddressed allegations involving government officials.
“Wild allegations, serious—that Akyem mafia, we are hoarding gold outside, the MIIF. There are monies that they have stolen. A lot of things. So the director of national investigation did not invite any of them. So we will go and prove to them that they are doing selectivity in their work,” he said.
Godwin Mahama reacting to the NIB’s invitation to Abronye added that Abronye has not been charged with any crime but has only been invited to substantiate his claims.
