Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has some questions as to why the Ghana Football Association (GFA) kept Black Stars coach Otto Addo on when his performance was poor.
According to him, the data clearly proves that Otto Addo has performed poorly as Black Stars coach and should have been sacked the by the GFA along with his assistant coaches.
Kofi Adams stated that he doesn’t know what went into the decision to keep Otto Addo because anybody who will look at the data will arrive at the simple decision of parting ways with him.
“The data is very poor—terrible. If we were looking at just the data, there’s no way this decision would have been made. That’s why the GFA chose to remove the entire backroom staff. It was surprising, however, that the head coach was retained while the rest were let go. Looking at the numbers alone, it’s a clear no,” he said.
He added that he is going to probe further in the coming days to find out why the Ghana Football Association decided to keep Otto Addo despite the data showing that he is not good enough.
“Something must have influenced that decision, perhaps financial considerations or enhancements to the technical team. An engagement with the GFA will help clarify what led to this choice.”
The 49-year-old who was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract, has come under intense scrutiny after failing to guide Ghana to qulify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
For the first time in 20 years, Ghana will be absent from the AFCON tournament after an abysmal qualifying campaign that saw the team go winless in six matches.
