An unidentified bigwig of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is said to have received Ghc15,000 from over fifteen (15) nurses to secure last-minute appointments for them in 2024.
Aside from the nurses, it is reported that he also took Ghc15,000 from nine (9) teachers as well to help them secure posting.
This means the NPP bigwig took Ghc15,000 from 24 people, making it a total sum of Ghc360,000 in “connection” fees.
According to sources, the said NPP man secured the appointments for the victims and promised to get them placed on the payroll of the Auditor-General after the December 7, 2024 elections, as he thought the NPP was going to retain power.
This deal is said to have taken place in November 2024.
However, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) winning the elections, the Chief of Staff under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama issued a notice to all heads of government institutions and agencies to revoke all appointments made after December 7, 2024.
The directive was contained in a circular dated February 10, 2025, and addressed to all Heads of Government Institutions.
“Consistent with Government pronouncement in relation to near end of tenure appointments and recruitments, I wish to bring to your attention that all appointments and recruitments made in the Public Services of Ghana after 7th December, 2024 are not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles,” Julius Debrah wrote.
He therefore directed that, “accordingly, all Heads of Government Institutions are hereby requested to take the necessary steps to annul any such appointments or recruitments and submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to this Office by 17th February 2025.”
“Your cooperation in this matter is highly appreciated,” he urged.
Although members of the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) government have criticized the directive, the government has stood on its grounds.
These revocations have also affected nurses and teachers nationwide, including the 24 who paid Ghc15,000 each to top NPP man.
After the 24 received their termination letters, they have tried all means necessary to take back their payments of secure re-appointments but the man’s number is no more reachable.
The resourceful 24 managed to track him to his house only to be told he had relocated.
