The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has chastised President John Dramani Mahama for establishing the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee.
According to them, ORAL is a tool for political persecution.
Addressing journalists at its headquarters in Accra the New Patriotic party’s (NPP) National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye criticized President John Dramani Mahama for failing to uphold his promise of transparency, accountability and justice by holding state officials accountable.
“President Mahama’s administration is a growing disaster, particularly in the fight against corruption. The government-established ORAL Committee, for us, it looks like the committee was just set up as a political persecution mechanism.”
He further accused the government of turning a blind eye to cases involving its own officials while witch-hunting NPP officials.
“The ORAL committee didn’t find it appropriate to tell Ghanaians where Sedina Tamakloe is.”
On April 16, 2024, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labor.
The trial, which began in 2019, featured six state witnesses. Tamakloe-Attionu was tried in absentia after she fled the country following court approval for a medical check-up abroad.
Her conviction stemmed from the misappropriation of funds allocated for MASLOC activities between 2013 and 2016.
In one instance, she and her co-convict withdrew GH₵500,000 as a loan from Obaatampa Savings and Loans but later demanded a refund when the institution refused to provide a 24% interest rate. Although evidence of the refund was presented, the amount was never recorded in MASLOC’s accounts.
He argued that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not promise such actions to Ghanaians and emphasized that the current situation is a deterioration rather than the reset that Mahama had promised.
“Based on the experience so far, the reset President Mahama promised is a deterioration. Ghana needs an upgrade, not just the aggressive reset we are experiencing only a month into President Mahama’s government.
He invited all Ghanaians to join the effort to hold the Mahama government strictly accountable for its actions.
