Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are said to have still not come to terms with their 2024 election defeat.
Chairman of Parliaments Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor (MP) made this revelation during an interview.
He insists Afenyo-Markin and the NPP do not believe they are in opposition and have acted confused and tried to frustrate every dealing of the 9th Parliament.
Speaking about the recent behavior of Afenyo-Markin and the minority which some have described as surprising and erratic, he stated, “I will attribute it to the defeat of the 2024 elections. Look the 1st day I took the seat, when the business statement was being delivered by then majority leader, I could see that at a point the minority leader will ask the former ministers of the house to stand up and ask them to sit down. For me he is acting out of frustration. Afenyo-Markin is acting out of frustration as a result of the election defeat.”
According to him, there is sadness in the NPP and very soon the entire Ghana will get to know this.
“Very soon you will realize that they are actually bleeding from the election defeat. It was a result that they were not expecting,” he added.
The December 7, 2024 elections were envisioned to be a competitive one but the results showed a landslide victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Ghana’s electoral commission declared ex-president and main opposition leader John Dramani Mahama winner of the presidential election with 6,328,397, representing 56.55% of the total vote cast while the vice president and presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, secured 4, 657, 304, representing 41.61%.
