Dominic Ayine the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice have been accused of allegedly blowing a whopping GHC200,000 on office furniture.
According to a netizen, barely a month into office appointees of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration are already displaying opulence.
The netizen claimed Dr Dominic Ayine who has been tasked by President John Dramani Mahama with the prosecution of those accused of looting in the erstwhile Akufo-Addo Bawumia government has reportedly spent GHC200k on furniture for his personal use.
The netizen in a post on X wrote, “Barely a month into office, and the opulence of this administration is already on full display”.
“A minister, tasked with prosecuting those accused of looting, has reportedly spent GHC200k on furniture for his personal use. The irony? This isn’t justice—it’s “Looting 2.0”, he added.
It remains to be established if the netizen accusation levelled at the Attorney General and member of parliament for Bolgatanga East for allegedly blowing GHC200k on office furniture is true.
However, Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) has also been accused of spending GHS173,940 on office furniture which he has come out to boldly refute.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, he has not made any changes to his office and all the things in his office, including the chair, desk, and fridge were there before he assumed office.
He added that not even the A4 sheets or pens on his office desk have been changed.
Sammy Gyamfi urged Ghanaians to verify the information before accepting claims made by communicators and social media pages of NPP.
Meanwhile, President Mahama has warned his appointees that the hallmark to this government will be modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people.
He asserted that all traces of affluence and lavish lifestyle were to be avoided in his administration.
John Mahama at the swearing-in ceremony of 17 Ministers in Accra some weeks ago stated, “The hallmark of this government will be modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people. There will be no room for arrogance and pomposity in this government. The resources that you will be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office. Those resources are not to be wasted on opulence and extravagance”.
“Also, all traces of affluence and lavish lifestyle are to be avoided. The people of Ghana are enduring difficult times, occasioned by hardships, resulting from the economic mismanagement of the last eight years, and ours is to work to lift them out of this hole”, he added.
