Tarkwa-based businessman Maxwell Boakye, 33, has been elected as the Western Regional Council of State Representative.
Maxwell Boakye secured 17 out of 28 votes in a contest with 9 candidates.
Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah emerged as the closest candidate, garnering 10 votes, while Adjei Clement secured just a single vote.
The other six failed to secure any vote, making Maxwell Boakye the youngest-ever Council of State member from the region.
Boakye, who hails from Sameraboi, communicated his appreciation to the delegates for trusting him with the responsibility to represent the region on the Council of State.
In his speech, he highlighted the need for greater youth involvement in governance and policymaking at both the regional and national levels.
The Electoral Commission (EC), a total of 155 candidates from all 16 regions of Ghana have filed their nominations to contest with 145 males and 10 females.
The election of regional representatives to the Council of State will take place in all the regional capitals.
The Council of State elections will decide regional representatives who will advise President John Dramani Mahama on key state issues.
The applicants have fruitfully gone through the nomination process, which required them to meet specific eligibility criteria as set by the EC.
The Council of State election is not open to the general public like the parliamentary and presidential elections, Ghana’s 261 District Assemblies will nominate two representatives who will cast their votes.
Established under Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution, the Council serves as a key consultative body, offering expert advice on governance-related issues, national security, economic development, and other critical state affairs.
They are constitutionally instructed as an advisory body that guides the President on policy formulation and national governance.
