Ghanaian journalist and media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has said President John Dramani Mahama’s ban on first-class travel for his appointees will not significantly reduce costs.
According to Nana Aba Anamoah, John Mahama’s appointees must travel with the premium economy because we are cutting costs.
President John Mahama during the swearing-in of ministers at the Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, 2025, announced that government appointees will not be allowed to travel first class.
John Mahama stated, “Any travel that is deemed essential and necessary must be cleared first with the Office of the Chief of Staff and such travels will have to be taken in modesty no first class”.
“The resources you will be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office,” he added,
Nana Aba Anamoah noted that most of the appointees at that level travel Business class.
Speaking on United Showbiz, Nana Aba Anamoah detailed, “We have to be sincere, most people are that level travel business class unless they are travelling on emirate that they will go for first class. So if you say at best travel business, that is what they have been doing anyway so you are not cutting costs.
Unless they are travelling on Emirate which offers first class, they will go with business class, but if you are on British Airways it is the Business class that will be used any way that is what they used in the past, so the appointees must rather go for the premium economy because we are cutting cost”, she added.
