Leading Member of the Movement for Change, Nana Yaw Sarpong has raised suspicion over claims of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin that he was able to secure a $5million bank loan at 23 years.
According to him, the claim by Afenyo-Markin is false as it is impossible for him to have secured such a loan from an international bank at that age.
“Recently I was listening to one of our parliamentarians who was talking about being married at the age of 23, and at that age he had a company that was able to get $5 million loan from a bank.”
“Menua let’s be real. He set up the company let’s say when he was 10 years. So, the company grew to the extent that he was able to acquire a loan, not from a local bank but a multi-national bank, $5 million to invest in his company,” he said on TV3.
With this revelation, Nana Yaw Sarpong called for a revision of the nation’s asset declaration law, seeking the assets of state officials are publicly declared.
“If they publish it and we know what they own, how much is in their accounts and tomorrow they come to tell us a different story we can tell. Tracing and tracking the monies won’t be an issue because we know how these people keep their monies.”
Aside from strengthening the asset declaration law, he called for a lifestyle audit which will also help identify corrupt state officials.
