Leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong has revealed the real reasons why Alexander Afenyo-Markin was never appointed Minister under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.
Kennedy Agyapong revealed that in the 2016 elections, the NPP managed to win a whooping 17 seats out of the 23 constituencies in the Central Region.
With this victory, he sought to lobby for some Members of Parliament in the region to be appointed as ministers in the Akufo-Addo government.
According to Kennedy, Alexander Afenyo-Markin was the first person that came to mind to be made a sector minister from the region but however, President Akufo-Addo wanted nothing to do with him (Afenyo-Markin).
In an interview, Kennedy was heard saying, “To be honest with you, we were fighting for Alex Markin (to be made minister) but he had an issue. The Agric bank issue and all so the president didn’t even want to hear his name. The most senior person after Alex Markin was Hawa Koomson and that is how we got the position (Minister of Special Development Initiatives) for her.
Some ten (10) years ago, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo begun investigations into a bribery scandal in Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) which had Alexander Afenyo-Markin in the center.
The MP, was accused of extorting money from the Agricultural Development Bank to allegedly abandon a case he is pursuing in court against the bank’s Initial Public Offer.
