IGP Damapre was appointed as the Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service by President Nana Akufo-Addo on 21 July 2021 effective 1 August 2021.
The faith of IGP Dampare is a question on many Ghanaians’ lips whether he would be maintained by the John Mahama administration is yet to be seen.
There have been rumours of a possible removal of IGP Dampare, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak Minister for Interior has reiterated that the decision to remove or maintain IGP Dampare rests with President John Dramani Mahama.
Muntaka Mohammed revealed that his job as Interior Minister is to recommend to President John Mahama whether or not to maintain IGP Dampare.
The interior minister noted that the question about the removal of the Inspector General of Police keeps coming again despite his answers.
The Leader of the Glorious Word Power, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, last week during his summon to his congregation questioned when the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akuffo Dampare, will be removed from office.
According to Rev Owusu Bempah, the IGP Dampare has been in office for a long after the change in government.
Retired ACP Dr Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo, a Senior Officer of the Ghana Police Service, has labelled George Akuffo Dampare as the “worst” Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Ghana’s history.
Retired ACP Dr Benjamin Kwasi Agordzo stated, “This is the worst IGP that we have ever seen in this country,” he declared, adding that Dampare’s actions as IGP have left the police service in a state of disarray and dissatisfaction.
“Can you imagine an IGP promoting people without the promotion board? Can you imagine an IGP transferring people without a transfer board?” Agordzo asked.
“I don’t have any personal problem with him, but I am just speaking the truth as I know it. I can tell you that over 80% or not less of police officers voted against the NPP because of Dampare,” he said, revealing a significant political shift within the police force.
Meanwhile, the host of the Gumbe Show on TV XYZ, Oheneba Boamah Bennie has also claimed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare is secretly lobbying to be retained as IGP in the John Dramani Mahama administration.
