Albert Nat Hyde commonly known as Bongo Ideas has issued a public apology and retraction to Kojo Forex following an Accra High Court ruling.
Yesterday, 27 February 2025 news broke of Accra High Court ordering Bongo Ideas to pay Kojo Forex GH₵170,000 in a defamation case.
Kojo Forex on 17 May 2023 filed a defamation suit against Bongo Ideas demanding one million Ghana cedis (GH₵1,000,000).
Kojo Forex accused Bongo Ideas of publishing defamatory statements about him on Twitter which seeks to harm his reputation.
Justice Forson Agyapong Baah of the Accra High Court Jurisdiction 2 after reviewing the evidence presented delivered a ruling on January 28, 2025.
Bongo Ideas has been ordered to pay Kojo Forex general damages of GH₵100,000, along with an extra GH₵50,000 for aggravated, exemplary, and compensatory damages.
Additionally, the offender was instructed to pay GH₵20,000 in legal costs.
The Accra High Court has also ordered Bongo Ideas to publicly apologize for the defamatory statements made.
The controversial social media personality has also been directed to retract his statement on his Twitter page within 21 days of the judgment.
The court has also restricted Bongo Ideas from making or issuing any further defamatory statements regarding Kojo Forex.
Bongo Ideas has finally issued a public apology and retraction after he defamed Kojo Forex.
According to Bongo Ideas, he acknowledged that his previous statements were false, defamatory, and without any factual basis and regretted having made these statements.
He wrote in a statement on X, “I acknowledge that my previous statements were false, defamatory, and without any factual basis. I regret having made these statements, as they have negatively impacted the reputation of Kojo Forex and his business endeavors.
In accordance with the judgment of the Accra High Court, I hereby retract the aforementioned statements and publicly apologize to Kojo Forex for my actions. I deeply regret any damage to his reputation and business that my words may have caused”.
Bongo Ideas statement further added, “Additionally, I acknowledge the court’s order for a permanent injunction preventing me from publishing or causing to be published any similar or defamatory statements about Kojo Forex, and I commit to fully adhering to this order.
Please note that due to the unfortunate seizure of my original social media accounts (specifically x.com/BongoIdeas) and equipment, I am unable to make this public apology from my original Twitter account. Nonetheless, I am issuing this public apology and retraction from my new official Twitter account [@1BongoIdeas], and 1 pledge to comply with the court’s orders”.
Bongo Ideas further claimed he has learnt from this experience and will approach his public statements with greater responsibility in the future.
“I also want to emphasize that I have learned from this experience and will approach my public statements with greater responsibility in the future. I apologize to everyone affected by my actions, and I extend my heartfelt apologies to Kojo Forex and anyone else who may have been harmed by the dissemination of these defamatory statements”, he added.
