Haruna Iddrisu the Education Minister has announced the reintroduction of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs).
According to Haruna Iddrisu, the PTA is returning to be part of the management team in public schools.
He added that it is aimed at fostering collaboration and improving educational outcomes.
Speaking during a function the minister of education stated, “I am particularly happy to announce that PTAs will be introduced back into the management of education under the presidency of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to work for parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions.
And for PTAs to support our educational institutions to produce quality human capital for the country”, he added.
PTA’s which play an instrumental role in Ghana’s education was sidelined by the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government after the introduction of the Free SHS policy.
Meanwhile, some social media have expressed their opinion on the issue saying, “ Bringing back PTAs is a great move! 👏 Parents, teachers, and school management working together can only lead to better education and accountability. Hopefully, this strengthens the system and gives parents a real voice in their children’s education. 📚🎓”.
“Someone should Please tell him to add speech and prize giving day, graduation and proms to our basic and secondary schools to make education enticing for our younger ones”, another wrote.
Another user wondered who spearheaded the removal of PTA from the NPP regime, “ So who spearheaded the removal of PTA in NPP’S regime? What were they smoking at all?”.
