The former chairman of Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that with just 36 cases Ghana can potentially recover $20.49billion in stolen state resources.
According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, data suggests that with just 36 carefully investigated cases Ghana can recover $20.49 billion.
Speaking on February 10, 2025, during the submission of ORAL’s final report to President John Mahama, Ablakwa stated, “The data suggests that with just 36 carefully investigated cases, Ghana can potentially recover $20.49 billion in stolen or misused state resources”.
He further revealed the team received 1,493 calls through the toll-free line, “We received 1,493 calls through the toll-free line. We also received 924 emails. Fortunately, all of these calls are recorded automatically, and all the emails have also been preserved for verification and validation. So in total, the number of complaints received amounts to 2,417”
“So those who had any doubts about how relevant and how timely the president’s intervention was at the time, this is your evidence. President Mahama has been vindicated. It was a masterstroke, it was the right decision for our country, and it has deepened transparency and accountable governance”, he added.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has assured Ghanaians the work of ORAL does not end there.
“As we receive this report, let me assure the Ghanaian people that the work does not end here. The recommendations of the report will be carefully studied and where legal action and investigations are needed, they will be pursued without fear or favour.
“Every pesewa recovered will be channelled back into national development and mechanisms will be strengthened to prevent such losses in the future”, he added.
