Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo has sponsored free make up and photoshoot sessions for students of the University of Ghana-Legon.
Beneficiaries of this benevolence of the MP are the freshers of the school who are celebrating their matriculation.
The glam up and photo op session took place on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the University of Ghana Athletic Oval.
Posting an artwork to inform students of the freebies, portions of the artworks read, “Glow up & Show Up! – Step into the spotlight with a free makeup session & photoshoot, all courtesy of Hon. John Dumelo!”
He also wrote on his X page, “University of Ghana matriculation is this Saturday and I will be organizing free make up and free Photoshoot for all first year students.”
Although some social media users loved the generosity of the MP, some questioned his motives, with others disapproving of it.

A newly elected MP resorting to handing out free makeup and photoshoots to curry favor with the uninformed masses, who are apparently so easily swayed by such trivialities that they overlook the real responsibilities of governance? How sustainable is this charade of populism when it reduces the electorate to mere pawns in a game of superficial popularity rather than fostering a citizenry that demands substantive political action?

@NiiNoi19_Free – Sponsoring photoshoots means he can easily sponsor one of the greatest movies the world has ever seen. The Agric sector to me is a misplaced priority.
@obraAkwentuo – Among the many good things he has done, this be one of the things I see it not to be necessary at all. Make up n photo shoot? How is that helpful to the learners? Also photographers n makeup artists who whould hv done it at a fee (business) can’t hv that assess.
@NiiNoi19_Free – This is the most reason why I feel the best place for John is the Creative Art industry. He has passion for it. He likes the camera, lights action thing. This is the time Ghana creatives need him most to bridge the gap between Ghana and the Nigerian industry.
