Theresa Lardi Awuni a member of the parliament of Okaikwei North has stated that the former Information Minister, Fati Abubakar comments on the majority grasp of the English language.
According to Theresa Lardi Awuni, Fatimatu Abubakar’s comments are unfortunate.
Fatimatu Abubakar the former Minister of Information has claimed the majority in parliament have turned into the minority in parliament.
According to Fatimatu Abubakar the National Democratic Congress Members of parliament are struggling to speak English in the chamber.
She asserted that despite the NDC having a supermajority in parliament they seem to have become the minority due to their inability to speak English.
Speaking in an interview on Movement TV on February 16, 2025, Fatimatu Abubakar revealed, “There is a saying that in all things, we should give glory to God because if this hadn’t happened, we wouldn’t have learned a lesson. Someone told me, Minister, it seems the NPP looks better than the NDC in power.”
“Now that we are in opposition, just look at Parliament, now the Minority has turned into the Majority because of English. People are really struggling to speak English in the chamber”, she added.
Speaking on the floor of parliament Theresa Lardi Awuni stated, “Recently our former information minister was heard on the radio saying MPs on this side, cannot speak in parliament because we cannot express ourselves in the English language, this is an information minister, this is somebody who was my information minister she is my very good friend.
Her statement where unfortunate, and so I will pleased that we should be the ones out there to chat the path for everybody to to follow”, she added.
Theresa Lardi Awuni further added, “When you go to places like Germany, even if they speak English they will force you to learn their language first, you cannot work with them unless you learn their language.
People say they are racist, I think it is the way to go, and so if you are in Ghana, Ghanaian you are from Bolga, from Greater Accra, students in Greater Accra are being forced to learn Twi instead of the Ga language”, she stated.
