A netizen has reacted to the news of the termination of last-minute appointments under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government.
According to the netizen in a letter sighted from the Ghana Water Company, President John Mahama is also sacking persons employed by the GWCL in November.
The netizen wrote, “Even those employed in November by Ghana water company are being sacked by John Mahama? I see”.
A letter dated February 10, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah directed all Heads of government institutions to nullify all appointments made by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration after December 7, 2024.
Julius Debrah wrote, “Consistent with Government pronouncement in relation to the near end of tenure appointments and recruitments, I wish to bring to your attention that all appointments and recruitments made in the Public Services of Ghana after 7th December 2024 are not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles,”
“Accordingly, all Heads of Government Institutions are hereby requested to take the necessary steps to annul any such appointments or recruitments”, the statement added.
Despite the chief of staff directive the Ghana Water Company Limited has suspended all new recruits appointed in November 2024.
According to a letter sighted from the GWCL, the suspension is to allow an assessment of the situation and a comprehensive audit of the process leading to their engagement.
The GWCL statement read, “This serves as a formal directive regarding the appointments made in November 2024. It has been decided to suspend new recruits who were appointed in November 2024 and posted to your respective regions and who are not on the payroll as of January 2025.
This is to allow for an assessment of the situation and a comprehensive audit of the process leading to the engagement. Management will issue further directives when the need arises”.
