A netizen has showered praises on the former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for introducing the electric buses.
According to the netizen, the Electric bus is super convenient, and innovative.
The netizen on X wrote, “ Today, I took the EV Bus on Tap n’ Go from Adenta to Ridge, and it was super convenient! The bus was spotless, the AC was excellent, the payment process was seamless, and the conductor was very helpful. And what was the best part? The fare was GHS3.00 lower than trotro!”.
“This is a fantastic innovation and the Ministry of Transport should do everything possible to sustain and enhance it. Additionally, introducing a subscription model for corporate commuters alongside the current pay-as-you-go system could be a game-changer”, he added.
The netizen further added, “From a supply standpoint, this would allow the managers to forecast monthly earnings and based on that, calculate operational costs and profit margins, and invest in expanding the fleet”.
On the demand side, commuters could budget for transportation, schedule pickups (as seen on the current map), and enjoy a more convenient experience. A true win-win!
After my first ride, I can confidently say this is an innovation I love and highly recommend!@MBawumia, God bless you 🤝”, he added.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on November 27, 2024, unveiled the country’s first fleet of battery-electric buses.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the naysayers as usual said it was not possible when they made the announcement. Still, they insisted that if other countries could deploy electric buses to make life easier for their citizens, why not Ghana?
In a social media post on X, Dr Bawumia wrote, “The introduction of the electric buses, fulfills our promise to introduce new measures to significantly cut down the cost of public transportation, which is part of our broader vision to bring down the cost of living”.
“With the new buses powered through charging its electric system, and not through fuel, its operational cost will be reduced significantly, thus, also reducing the cost of public transport by 40% to 50%”, he wrote on X.
The vice president also asserted that the new era is not only for government buses, but it also presents an opportunity for private-owned bus and trotro services, for cheaper operational cost, when we fully roll out the program with electric charging spots across various places in Accra cities.
He further wrote, “With a mindset of possibility, we will, together, make many things possible and transform our country”.
