A netizen has asked Ghanaians who have raised concerns about GTV being sidelined for WoezorTV, by the John Mahama administration.
Some Ghanaians in the last couple of days have raised concerns over what they label as the takeover of the state broadcaster’s role by WoezorTV.
According to the Netizen do Ghanaians expect the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to forget WoezorTV when they were both in trenches together?
The netizen revealed that before the 2020 election, Citi TV/FM did not broadcast any NDC press conference.
He revealed that even in the 2024 election only a few media houses embraced the National Democratic Congress.
According to the Netizen, those expecting the NDC to abandon Woezor TV now that they have gained power are not serious.
He wrote on X, “ Prior to the 2020 election, Citi TV/FM did not broadcast any NDC press conference. Even in 2024, only a few media houses embraced the NDC.
We were in the trenches with Woezor TV. Now that we get power, do you expect the NDC to forget Woezor? You are not serious”.
Woezor TV is a television channel owned by the Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Operations at the Office of the President, Stan Xoese Dogbe.
Stan Dogbe has, in a Facebook post revealed that no Media House reporting from the presidency, including the state-owned GTV, has been stopped from taking live feed from the Office of the President.
Parts of his post reads, “So, why are they making the noise about WoezorTV taking over GTV or GBC as the state media? This is so that WoezorTV, which is not available on DTT either, would not lead the communication agenda of the Mahama administration”.
“Does it even make sense that WoezorTV will take over the status of GTV? Under John Mahama, GTV and Radio Ghana have more access to the President and the Presidency than under any other administration”.
“Today, GTV broadcasts live from the presidency, including all events of the president, just like JoyNews, TV3, Channel One TV, WoezorTV, GhOneTV, etc. Do you know why? Because WoezorTV opened the way for live broadcasts and live streams, the competition has become healthy and beneficial to the Mahama brand”.
“GTV also goes live with outdoor events of the presidency at a scale never seen in Ghana before, and that is because the presidency has created that convenient platform for them and other networks”, he added.
Meanwhile, Manasseh Azure has also stated he see no problem if Woezor TV, like GTV, TV3 or JoyNews, has access to live feed and decides to stream live instead of making news out of events at the presidency.
He wrote, “If GTV, JoyNews and others have unfettered access just like Woezor TV, then there’s nothing to worry about. If they choose to record and play national events or events at the presidency, and Woezor decides to stream live, there’s no problem.
It would be worrisome if others were denied access to live broadcasts of presidential events and Woezor is given access because of its owner’s influence.
From what I know, programming, advertising and other commercial interests would not allow many TV stations to carry events live even if they have access. If Woezor has the space to do that, I see nothing wrong with it. A problem would only arise if access is rigged in favour of Woezor TV”, his statement added.
