Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye has dismissed claims that president John Dramani Mahama is looking for reasons to sack Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
According to him, the President doesn’t need a reason to replace Dr. Dampare as the Inspector General of Police and urged Ghanaians to dismiss the propaganda.
Felix Ofosu Kwakye stated that the President can change him on the basis that he is not the best person to carry out the reforms he wants in the police service and will not have to wait for him to commit a crime before replacing him.
He added that there is no evidence of specific wrongdoing against of the IGP.
“President Mahama is not waiting for IGP Dampare to commit before he replaces him with a different person.”
“So if he is changed it is not because he has done something wrong. It may just be that the president may think a new direction is needed at the Police Headquarters or the Police leadership that would cause this change,” he added.
There have been speculations over the tenure of IGP, Dr. George Akufo Dampare following the election of John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s President.
As per the norm, every elected President replaces the IGP and heads of other security agencies and some judicial heads.
So far, President Mahama has not said or made any indications about replacing Dr. George Akufo-Dampare as IGP.
