Sammi Awuku the member of parliament for Akuapem North has fired back at President John Dramani Mahama after he tagged the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government’s handling of Ghana’s economy as criminal.
John Mahama speaking to public sector workers revealed some of the things he is uncovering himself showing Ghana is now a crime scene.
He asserted he knew the country was in crisis but could not believe how the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government could be such reckless.
Speaking at the National Tripartite Committee meeting at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment stated, “You know we are your natural elites, and we have worked together for many years, one thing that is a cardinal principle for us is to tell the truth at all times.
“We all knew the economy was in crisis, but some of the things I am uncovering myself have been a criminal mishandling of our economy. Ghana is now a crime scene”.
“How can a government be so reckless? I cannot understand, but we are faced with the reality, and our options are very few we can behave like an ostrich and hide our heads in the sun and let the economy crash but then what effect will it have on Ghanaian households?”, he added.
According to Sammi Awuku, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) criminal economy’ employed millions, kept the light on and paid Nurses and Teacher trainee allowances.
Speaking after President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address yesterday 27 February 2025, Sammi Awuku stated, “A criminal economy was still able to employ hundreds and thousands and millions of people.
“A criminal economy was still able to keep our light on, a criminal economy was still able to pay our nurses and teacher trainee allowances”.
“Arrears do not mean they won’t be paid, every government will come and leave arrears make no mistake, even by the time you handover people have started working on the first of January, so you would still have arrears to pay”, he added.
Sammi Awuku further added that the claimed criminal economy was still able to sustain economic development.
“A criminal economy was still able to sustain economic development, a criminal economy was able to ensure that indeed the Ghanaian young people had an opportunity to exercise their constitutional right, the right to work, the right to economic empowerment and freedom”, he reiterated.
