Former Defence Minister and current Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul has boldly stated Ghana is not immune to coup.
According to Dominic Nitiwul, anyone who thinks a coup cannot happen in Ghana is mad.
Dominic Nitiwul noted that even in big countries like America one cannot say a coup can never happen not to talk about Ghana.
He asserted that even in the UK where democracy has been all over one cannot say there can be no coup.
The former defence minister cautioned dismissing the possibility of a coup would be “mad” and “unwise”.
Speaking in an interview on AsaasePa 107.3 FM, he stated, “But to say that a coup can never happen in Ghana, then you are mad. It means you are not wise”.
“It is not like that, even in states, big big countries like America, you cannot say that not to talk of Ghana. Even in the UK, where democracy has been all over, you can’t say that”, he added.
Nitiwul further revealed a coup plot was foiled in Ghana in 2019, demonstrating that Ghana could face such a threat if appropriate attention is not monitored.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian-based US social commentator Kevin Taylor last year alleged that a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko was plotting a coup against John Mahama should he win the 2024 elections.
Kevin Taylor on his show revealed that he had intercepted a phone conversation between Gabby Otchere Darko and two men saying if Mahama wins they will plot a coup within three months.
