Edward Doe Adjaho, the Chairman of the Council of State has assured President John Dramani Mahama has led Council of State will be a Council of difference.
Edward Doe Adjaho asserted that there have been calls by some Ghanaians for the Council of State to be abolished after questions of the Council of States’ relevance.
His assurance comes after John Mahama swore in a 31-member advisory body on Tuesday, February 18.
The 31-member advisory body is made up of both elected and appointed members.
According to Edward Doe Adjaho, he is confident of the experience of the Council Members to contribute meaningfully to governance.
Addressing the gathering, Doe Adjaho, “I want to assure you on behalf of the Council of State that we will work as a team, we will support you in the governance structure in the discharge of our constitutional and statutory responsibilities,”
“It is true that many have questioned the relevance of the Council of State, some have even called for its abolition. But we want to assure you that this Council of State will be a Council of difference. Mr President, you can count on us day and night, we shall respond”, he added.
Meanwhile, President Mahama has stated the Council of State is not merely a formality, but a duty for members to ensure the government receives informed guidance on governance, policy, and national development.
President Mahama highlighted the significant role of the Council of State in offering non-partisan insights to the executive arm of government.
He described the Council as a distinguished advisory body made up of men and women of integrity, sound judgment, and vast expertise.
He urged members of the Council to go beyond ceremonial duties and embrace their profound responsibility.
