The Civil Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide industrial action slated for Thursday, February 20, 2025.

The decision comes in response to the continued tenure of Samuel Adom Botchway at the Births and Deaths Registry, despite prior government assurances of his removal.

According to a statement signed by Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo, CLOGSAG is deeply dissatisfied with Mr. Botchway’s ongoing presence, evidenced by his participation in the office’s budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.

“From all indications the officer (Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway) is still at post as he represented the Births and Deaths Registry at the budget hearing held at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Monday, 17% February, 2025”.

The association expressed their frustration, emphasizing that the strike will proceed as scheduled unless their concerns are promptly addressed.

“The strike is on”.

The government reached a compromise with the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), which led to them calling off their planned strike last week.

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu made this revelation, indicating that the government has agreed to CLOGSAG’s demands to reassign Samuel Adom Botchway from the Births and Deaths Registry.

“In the truest spirit of cooperation and understanding, we are happy to announce that the matter has been resolved and there will be no nationwide strike by CLOGSAG”.

Kwakye Ofosu in a statement noted that the precedent set by the previous government in appointing a non-civil servant to the position remains an issue before the courts.

“We have learnt that the precedent that was set by the outgone government of appointing a non-civil servant to that position remains a pending matter in the courts”.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to being a listening administration and working together with all stakeholders to reset the nation.

“The Government of President Mahama remains committed to being a listening one as we together reset our nation”.
