The lead Convener of the FixTheCountry and Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has mocked the former vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to Oliver Vormawor the change in government is good as the former vice president has found his voice.
His comments come after Dr Bawumia in a Facebook fired shots at President John Mahama for dismissing last-minute appointments by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government.
Oliver Vormawor in a post wrote, “ Change is good oo. Even Bawumia has found his voice.Shalom”.
It will be recalled a letter dated February 10, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah directed all Heads of government institutions to nullify all appointments made by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration after December 7, 2024.
According to Dr Bawumia, the NDC campaigned on the wings of jobs for all but now dismissing Ghanaians.
Dr Bawumia noted that the former government employed these Ghanaians to put their talents to bear on the nation’s development and earn income to cater for themselves and their families but President Mahama is now dismissing them.
In a statement issued on Wednesday By Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, he wrote, “Since assuming office, however, the government of President Mahama has pursued a series of actions targeting Ghanaians who were legitimately employed during the previous administration.
It is ironic that a party which campaigned on the wings of jobs for all Ghanaians is arbitrarily dismissing the same Ghanaians, rendering them jobless, just because a different government employed them to put their talents to bear on the nation’s development and earn income to cater for themselves and their families”, he added.
Dr Bawumia further reiterated, “The least a party that campaigned on jobs could do under conditions of unemployment is to also innovate and create jobs rather than dismiss people”.
The former vice president also revealed that some persons have also been dismissed because of their relations with the former government.
His statement added, “Regrettably, these dismissals have been extended to directors who are public servants and not politicians. In some of the cases, the only reason for dismissal was that the persons whose livelihoods have been destroyed are known to or related to politicians as if to suggest that they cannot live independent professional lives, however, qualified they are.
There are also reports of the government’s intention to terminate the appointments of persons performing critical jobs such as security personnel, nurses, and teachers simply because they were appointed during the tenure of the previous administration. That will be most unfortunate”, his statement added.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has defended the cancellation of last-minute public service appointments under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed the former NPP government under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government bypassed due process in making last-minute appointments.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, some individuals did not even put in an application, and others did not even go through an interview.
Kwakye Ofosu further noted that the appointment letters were backdated but when you look at the payroll they have not received any payment at all since they were employed.
However, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye has filed a lawsuit against the Government of Ghana.
Henry Nana Boakye according to the suit is challenging the unlawful termination of appointments of individuals employed both before and after December 7, 2024.
