Ghanaians say they are satisfied with Bernard Ahiafor’s performance as Chairperson of the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
According to a poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics between January 30 and February 1, 2025, while forty-four percent (44%) of the nation’s population is dissatisfied by his work, a majority, fifty-six percent (56%) are happy of his work as chairperson.
The Appointments Committee of Parliament is the body responsible for the vetting of ministerial nominees of President John Dramani Mahama.
The work of the committee has come under the microscope in recent days as it has been rocked with one incident after the other.
The Committee was earlier accused of receiving bribes and having close door meetings to decide which of the ministers to be passed with ease, and who to be frustrated.
Also, a scuffle occurred between the majority and minority caucus on the Committee on Thursday, January 30, 2025 which lead to the destruction of equipment and logistics in the vetting room, and ultimately the suspension of 4 MPs.
Bernard Ahiafor, Chairperson of the committee had been criticized for not being up to the task and letting Minority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin dictate the vetting process.
However in the last couple of days, Bernard Ahiafor has shown some improvement, gradually settling into his role and taking charge of the process.
