A staunch supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has been stabbed to death at the Nana Koramansah Park.
The sad incident occurred during a Ghana Premier League game between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC which turned chaotic over the weekend.
From the get go, the game was rife with hostility from the Nsoatreman FC’s home crowd, with tensions rising throughout the game.
Asante Kotoko officials reported multiple instances of missiles being launched at their, endangering staff and players. It is reported that the Head of Media for Kotoko was struck by an unknown object which damaged his ear.
The club’s goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was physically attacked by some supporters who invaded the pitch.
The violence took a turn when a Kotoko fan was stabbed during the chaos. The fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, widely known as Nana Pooley was rushed to the hospital but died not long after.
The club’s equipment, including laptops and communication devices, were also damaged.
The club has called on the Ghana Football Association to take swift action against those responsible and to implement stronger security measures at league venues to prevent further tragedies.
Kotoko expressed deep condolences to the deceased fan’s family and reiterated the need for a safer football environment for players, officials, and supporters.
