According to John Mahama, some of the things he is uncovering himself show Ghana is now a crime scene.

He asserted he knew the country was in crisis but could not believe how the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government could be such reckless.

Speaking at the National Tripartite Committee meeting at the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment stated, “You know we are your natural elites, and we have worked together for many years, one thing that is a cardinal principle for us is to tell the truth at all times. We all knew the economy was in crisis, but some of the things I am uncovering myself have been a criminal mishandling of our economy. Ghana is now a crime scene”.

“How can a government be so reckless? I cannot understand, but we are faced with the reality, and our options are very few we can behave like an ostrich and hide our heads in the sun and let the economy crash but then what effect will it have on Ghanaian households?”, he added.

Stephen Amoah has however asserted that he respectfully and humbly disagreed with the president and suggested he was being misled.

According to Stephen Amoah, the Akufo-Addo government manage the economic challenges and sets the economy on a positive trend.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, February 20, 2025, Stephen Amoah detailed, “All these important primary macro indicators that are used to determine the state of any country or an economy are performing twice as well as what we met in 2016 while going through one of the most severe economic crises in the world”.

“We faced a situation where public servants were asked to stay home but were still paid, whereas the private sector laid off about 40,000 people. Countries such as the UK and the USA saw inflation rise from about 1% to 11%. Now, we who have managed these challenges and set the economy on a positive trend are being accused of criminally mishandling it? That statement must be properly interrogated”, he added.

Stephen Amoah further added, “You can’t say this about your country’s economy without giving figures. They are coming to read the budget; they should change the figures and let us see. So, I respectfully and humbly disagree with the president. Maybe he is being misled because I don’t think we ran the economy criminally”.
