The Winneba High Court has received a petition to annul the results of the Effutu constituency parliamentary election.
National Democratic Congress candidate for the Effutu Constituency, James Kofi Annan and independent candidate, Louisa Buabeng are the two candidates who submitted the petition before the court.
According to James Kofi Annan who is the first petitioner, he is requesting the court to annul results from some 96 polling stations claiming that the signatories on the pink sheets are not those of his officially assigned polling agents.
The second petitioner, Louisa Buabeng, on the other hand wants the entire results of the parliamentary election annulled because the Electoral Commission denied her crucial information about the election and also fielding polling agents.
Counsel for the petitioners, Jennifred Maurice Adjei following Monday’s court proceedings told 3News.Com that the case of the first petitioner is characterized by some in anomalies that were recorded on the day of elections.
Some anomalies have also been detected on some of the pink sheets.
According to the counsel, “some people who were not supposed to have even signed did so for his [first petitioner, James Kofi Annan] polling agents.”
He claims the final election results may have been changed as some anomalies were detected on 96 out of the about 150 pink sheets.
On the second petitioner, the counsel said she is “seeking to annul the entire results because we believe that the rules of natural justice have been breached”.
He said “the Electoral Commission ignored totally the third candidate, which is Louisa Buabeng” by denying her the “opportunity to present polling agents” as well as “access to the voters register and other prudent information”.
The counsel added that the Louisa Buabeng also had some unknown polling agents signing on her some thirty pink sheet when she had not officially assigned any polling agents.
If the petition is successful, the court will have to annual Afenyo-Markin’s victory and a new election had.
