The lead Convener of the FixTheCountry and Democracy Hub, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has revealed, that a lot of the people affected by the last-minute appointment terminations are not political footsoldiers.
According to Oliver Vormawor, a lot more are also being extorted because of the desperation to get jobs.
A letter dated February 10, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah directed all Heads of government institutions to nullify all appointments made by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration after December 7, 2024.
Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points, Oliver Barker-Vormawor detailed, “A lot of the people who are affected, let’s be clear not all of them are party footsoldiers or persons who were trying to push into the public service, a lot of them are also innocent Ghanaians, who just needed job”.
“There is a bigger problem that we need, to think about the human cost of some of these back-and-forths that we do, so many of these people are taken advantage of, people are made to pay huge sums of money to then pushed into the services, and these things are things we need to investigate”, he added.
The social activist added, “The vast amount of money people are being asked to pay to get jobs in this country and I am particularly pained for the young people who put themselves in this situation or who are caught up in this web.
There is a bigger problem and conversation around this mass recruitment it is not normal, that in the few months at the end of elections, thousands of people are recruited, and we don’t think it is something to be investigated, we must hold people accountable there is a public servant who is involved, there are elected officials who are involved, and this is a scheme for the for making money, we need to get at them as well”, Vormawor added boldly.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has defended the cancellation of last-minute public service appointments under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed the former NPP government under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government bypassed due process in making last-minute appointments.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, some individuals did not even put in an application, and others did not even go through an interview.
