Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh (MP), has dropped a shocking revelation about the election of Alban Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament for a second term.
Prior to the vote, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) received intel about some 30 MPs from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who were against the nomination of Alban Bagbin as Speaker for a second term.
“Over 30 members of their members (NDC) were not in support of his nomination. They wanted to lobby us to join forces with them,” he disclosed.
According to Annoh-Dompreh, the presidency and the party’s headquarters gathered intel about the position of the 30 members, hence President Mahama’s statement of endorsement of Alban Bagbin as Speaker.
“Even for the Speaker’s vote, the (NDC Party HQ) had intel 30 people on their side were not in support of Bagbin’s second coming. That’s is why the President issued a statement mandating them to nominate him. Why did you think they issued the letter? They knew there were grumblings in the parliament.”
However, the President’s statement caused the 30 to change their minds as they feared going against the party’s wishes would lead to them being ostracized, especially with appointments at stake.
John Mahama the president-elect officially endorsed the current Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to be the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
His decision was in consultation with the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

This is an absolute fact. Most of the NDC MP’s were ready to vote against the arrogant Sam George and the disrespectful Okudzeto Ablakwa through a secret ballot.
Even the Majority Leader confirmed on the floor that he will never let it happen that those two would be subjected to… pic.twitter.com/IbNfamazAn
