The information gathered revealed Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was picked up on Sunday morning February 23, 2025, concerning sanctioning the release of $2 million to Africa Investor Holdings, the company behind the project.

The payment was made before the feasibility studies were completed with Ghana yet to receive a refund of the transaction.

The lawyers for Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Ken Kuranchie have revealed in an interview that the former Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund has been released on bail.

According to Ken Kuranchie, the legal team of Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi is working to immediately to secure his freedom while investigations continue.

Speaking in an interview, Ken Kuranchie stated, I am one of the Lawyers we are actually about 4 lawyers handling the case. In the morning invited to the BNI, and they took him to the National Headquarters, they interrogated him and stated they had arrested him and said they were going to detain him.

Right now he has been released, it has to do with some of the work he did when he was board chairman at GIIF that is what I know, there a government funds for investment and he was the board chairman so that is what I know.

We have to be very careful when talking investigation that has just started, let us wait and see what comes out next, my client is innocent, and he is innocent of absolutely all charges and we shall see, let the government build its case.

A 2021 Auditor-General’s report, revealed that the Special Purpose Vehicle set up for the Sky Train project did not have an operational license, yet $2M was disbursed through GIIF under Prof Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi’s leadership.

The project was announced in 2017 and aimed at transforming Ghana’s urban transport in Accra but never saw the light of day after the $ 2 million payment.
