Speaking on the floor of Parliament after the president’s 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 27, he said “The president has announced to us a cabinet, a cabinet of 19 with only 2 women, but the daughter of the NDC, Zanetor Rawlings is missing. Hajia Lardy is missing, Hellene Ntorsso is missing, where are the women in this government?”
“The Vice President {Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang] is part of the government and we are seeing only two women in the cabinet. in percentage terms we have only 10 per cent of women in cabinet,” he added.
According to Afenyo-Markin President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation’s Address (SONA) was full of lamentations, and complains.
He charged President Mahama to take active steps in resolving or coming up with innovative ideas to resolve the issues he was lamenting about as he was the one in power.
“The president came to this house with the familiar story, the usual lamentations. He packaged it in a language as though we have a new beginning. Mr. Speaker, if the president has any concerns, his duty is to fix it,” he said on the floor after President Mahama’s address.
President John Dramani Mahama said among other things that youth unemployment is the biggest challenge facing Ghana.
He notes that youth unemployment threatens national security. To that end, he said, he has set up the Ministry of Youth Development to address the concerns of youth unemployment.
He said “The youth unemployment has led to despair and frustration. This poses a major security risk to our country and requires urgent attention.”
