Ghanaian singer and media personality, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, has questioned the rationale behind constant criticism and backlash for her Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon attempts.
According to her, she has been tagged as greedy, especially after she announced her 2nd attempt for her Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon.
“For a recognition that doesn’t have money, for a recognition that I’ve been tagged greedy and insulted, why would you even want to destroy me over it?” she questioned.
Afua Asantewaa also revealed an evil plot against her when she embarked on her first singathon in Accra last year.
“When they planned to give me a drug so I would collapse and they could put me in an ambulance… I’ll tell you everything,” she revealed, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Afua Asantewaa completed a grueling 121 hours and 39 minutes of continuous singing in her second attempt to set the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
This attempt was held at the Heroes’ Park at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, captivating audiences.
She began the marathon singing session in the early hours of December 21, 2024, and concluded triumphantly on December 25, 2024, a day symbolic of celebration and joy.
Over the five-day period, the Afua Asantewaa performed over 200 songs, representing a diverse range of Ghanaian genres, including gospel, highlife, afrobeat, and hiplife.
In 2023, she sang for an impressive 126 hours, surpassing the existing record of 105 hours set by India’s Sunil Waghmare, but her effort did not qualify due to technicalities.
