Senior Member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Lawyer Kwame Jantuah, has called out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for their apparent reluctance to engage with institutional processes aimed at promoting accountability.
Speaking against the backdrop of rising political tension, Jantuah questioned the NPP’s refusal to honor invitations from key bodies, raising suspicions about what they might be hiding.
“If you’ve taken land or money, quickly send it back. What are they scared of? If you have nothing to hide, you shouldn’t have a problem,” Jantuah stressed, referencing the need for transparency and ethical leadership.
He pointed to President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s initiative to gather information during the transition process as an example of responsible governance.
His comment come on the heels of a press conference held by the Minority in Parliament, during which they expressed dissatisfaction with the oral transition process.
The Minority accused the outgoing NPP government of deliberately withholding critical information from the incoming administration to obstruct President Mahama’s efforts to assume office effectively.
According to the Minority, this lack of cooperation is not only unprecedented but also undermines the principles of a smooth transition.
The Minority further alleged that key government officials were evading accountability by failing to comply with the transitional team’s requests, reinforcing concerns raised by Jantuah.
The lawyer also recalled incidents in previous administrations where officials facing scrutiny fled the country, only to return after negotiating their way back into the system through alleged financial settlements.
