Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Special Aide to President John Mahama says the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will ensure Akufo-Addo receives all entitlements due him as former president.
According to her, former Presidents make immense sacrifices for the nation and deserve to be rewarded for all their hard work.
Looking back at the treatment meted out to President Mahama after he served him first 4-year term in 2016, Joyce Bawa stated that while the events that transpired were “embarrassing” and “regrettable,” they should serve as a lesson for the future.
“President Akufo-Addo will certainly be getting what the constitution says we should give him—whatever the recommendations are. What happened to Mr. Mahama, embarrassing as it was and still is, I hope we don’t repeat those sorts of mistakes.”
“People come to the presidency and they actually sacrifice a great deal. Having served Mr. Mahama all these years, it takes a lot to serve Ghana as president. For the citizens to offer the former president one house or two, I think, is not too much to ask.
“What Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia did to John Mahama is a matter that will forever live in the books of history. Unfortunate, regrettable, and unnecessary as it was, I’m delighted that we came out of it.”
She reiterated that President Akufo-Addo would indeed receive the benefits outlined by the constitution, as it is his entitlement, and that this should be the norm for all former presidents.
