The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has accused the immediate past government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of bugging the Jubilee House, the official seat of Ghana’s presidency.
Speaking in an interview on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa, Gbande alleged that the bugging was an attempt to spy on President John Dramani Mahama’s newly inaugurated administration.
“We had intel that as they were exiting the presidency, they were bugging the building so that they can have more information from the NDC and the incoming government.
They are evil-minded people,” he stated.
Gbande explained that the delay in President Mahama’s move from his personal office in Cantonments to the Jubilee House is due to ongoing security checks and spiritual purifications aimed at safeguarding the presidency.
“We had evil people occupying the seat, so we need to cleanse and purify the place.
They have to check the security and make sure the place is secured,” he said.
He further suggested that spiritual measures were necessary to protect the presidency, claiming that the previous government had misused funds, including what he described as “defrauding God with money.”
Gbande also raised concerns about former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s practice of traveling with his own chair, describing it as unusual and demanding an investigation.
“Why did Akufo-Addo carry his own chair along when traveling? You don’t think the nation should interrogate why a president moves with his seat?
You want the incoming president to go and sit on the seat that was being moved around and having its own designated vehicle?” he asked.
He justified President Mahama’s decision to temporarily operate from his old office, emphasizing that the process of securing and designating offices at the Jubilee House is still ongoing.
“It is all resetting, and so I don’t think it is out of place that President Mahama is not operating from the Jubilee House,” Gbande said.
President John Dramani Mahama, who was sworn in for his second term on January 7, 2025, is yet to officially take up residence at the Jubilee House.
“We received news that the NPP government was bugging the Jubilee House so they could have more information from President Mahama’s administration.”
