Kofi Bentil a vice president of the policy think tank IMANI Africa has Ghanaians lived to see if President John Mahama will stand by his words to abolish the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).
According to Kofi Bentil, the E-Levy is the most hated tax he has ever seen.
Kofi Bentil noted that in the run-up to the 2024 elections, all candidates pledged to abolish the E-levy.
The E-levy was introduced by the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government and was met with contempt by many Ghanaians expressing their disapproval of the tax.
John Mahama has also announced that, within his first 120 days, several taxes including the E-levy and the COVID levy would be scrapped to ease the economic burden on Ghanaians.
Kofi Bentil in a post shared via on social media stated, “E-Levy is the most hated tax I’ve ever seen!! All candidates pledged to abolish them. We live to see who stands by their word!!”.
Meanwhile, the founder and Leader of Potter’s City, Prophet Nanasei Opoku-Sarkodie has boldly informed President John Mahama not to cancel the E-levy.
According to Man of God, Ghanaians are already used to paying it, and John Mahama is going to need the e-levy taxes.
Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader of parliament has also quizzed the NDC members of parliament on how they are going to raise revenue if they repel betting tax, E-levy, and Covid tax.
