High Court rejects legal objection from four NDC candidates against Mandamus applications by NPPThe Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed confidence in the legal processes concerning the electoral disputes in constituencies recently recollated and declared in favor of New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates.

Addressing the media after the High Court in Accra adjourned ruling on the preliminary legal objection against the NPP’s mandamus application, he described the party’s actions as necessary steps to uphold the rule of law.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring that electoral outcomes are properly verified and protected against any form of manipulation or threat.

According to him, the party’s decision to resort to the court for a mandamus order is to guarantee that the Electoral Commission (EC) is allowed to complete its work without external interference.

He maintained that the NPP remains committed to adhering to legal procedures to resolve the matter and that in the end they will be victorious.

Afenyo-Markin addressed concerns about the approach taken by the NPP, countering claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the party should have pursued an election petition instead.

He clarified that the NPP’s position is grounded in their belief that the electoral process was not conclusively completed due to disruptions and threats to EC officials.

This, he argued, necessitated a legal intervention to compel the EC to finalize its work and officially declare the rightful winners of the disputed seats.

He also dismissed allegations of wrongdoing by the NPP, noting that their focus remains on ensuring a transparent and lawful conclusion to the electoral process.

According to him, the party is not deterred by the opposition’s criticisms, as they are confident in their evidence and the legal remedies available to them.
