Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Fredua Ofori-Atta has described the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) unveiled by President Mahama as unnecessary.
ORAL, chaired by Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa seeks to recover all looted and illegally assets acquired by the appointees and members of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.
The ORAL team is said to have received over 700 cases for investigation from Ghanaians.
Nana Fredua Ofori-Atta however says there are other state institutions which existed before ORAL and has legitimacy in the eyes of Ghanaians to investigate such cases.
“Oral is an excess. We have NIB why don’t you want to use it. We have the CID, why don’t you want to use it. There’s the office of the OSP and EOCO. We’ve mentioned 4 separate institutions all with equal basis, all recognized by the Ghanaians,” he stated.
According to him, ORAL is a political witch hunting tool of the NDC. “ When EOCO knocks on my door I don’t think politics, I don’t think I am being witch hunted.”
He called for the immediate dissolution of ORAL. “This ORAL thing, I think they should pull it away. It should stop work. They should put out a statement to end their work. I am not impressed by their work. What they are doing is trying to destroy people’s reputation.”
He urged Ghanaians to present cases of corruption to the National Investigation Bureau “where you will find substance” and not the ORAL.
