Some shops in the bustling Kantamanto business district have been burnt to the ground.
The fire reportedly started on the dawn of January 2, 2025, with its root cause yet unknown.
According to information reaching yawanews.com, the fire engulfed shops at the entrance of Kantamanto right behind the GCB Bank in the area.
In a video shared on X, although about 10 fire tenders had been deployed by the Ghana National Fire Service to dose the fire, they were facing a bit of a challenge as the fire still burnt ferociously.
In an attempt to prevent a further spread of the fire and save the GCB Bank, fire service personnel together with security personnel had to move the bank’s generator set which was just separated from the fire by a thin wall.
This is the second fire recorded in the country within a space of two days after entering 2024.
On January 1, 2025, a shop in Tafo Mile 4, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region was burnt to the ground.
According to reports, the shop caught fire due to a firework display by some youth in the community during their celebration for crossing over into 2025.
