A resident of Sekondi-Takoradi has expressed excitement over the destruction of former President Akufo-Addo’s statue at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout.
The resident indicated that it did not make sense for a statue to be erected in honor of former President Akufo-Addo when the road was incomplete.
“It would have been a different story if the statue was erected after the road was completed. So, if has been destroyed then so be it. I am glad the statue has been destroyed,” he said.
“I am genuinely excited about the destruction. We are looking for a road and not the statue. If they had finished the road and erected the statute that would’ve been fine. But why do it when the road was incomplete,” he queried.
Former president Akufo-Addo’s statue located at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi has been destroyed by unidentified people.
According to reports the statue was broken down at about 1:30 am on January 13, 2025.
Prior to this destruction, the statue was vandalized a few weeks back when a hole was created in the leg, but was patched up not long after.
Unveiled on November 6, 2024, to honor the former President, the statue was largely criticized by Ghanaians. Questions were raised about its appropriateness and timing, particularly in light of other pressing developmental needs.
