President John Dramani Mahama has been chastised for travelling on commercial flights for official assignments when the presidential jet was fully operational.
“It is wrong for the president of the republic to be going on commercial jets when the jet that they have used their money to pay for and buy is available and is working,” former Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul stated on the floor of parliament.
His comment was a rebuttal from allegations levelled against former President Akufo-Addo by colleague MP, Kwame Governs Agbodza.
Concerns have been raised about President Mahama embarking on international trips on his brother, Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet.
Kwame Governs Agbodza addressing these concerns indicated that the president did not rent out the jet with government funds.
“President Mahama traveled on a commercial flight, unlike the previous President, who rented private jets even for domestic travel,” Mr. Agbodza stated.
Dominic Nitiwul clarified that hile Mr. Akufo-Addo had never rented private jets for domestic travel, he had occasionally used private jets for international flights, particularly in West Africa.
According to him, the presidential jet underwent thorough repairs and maintenance prior to the Akufo-Addo leaving office and is in pristine condition. He reiterated his advise to President Mahama to use the presidential jet.
