Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has laid blame at the doorsteps of the clerk of the Appointments Committee.
According to him, the violence which erupted at the Appointments Committee would have been prevented if she had not invited ministerial nominees who were not scheduled to be vetted.
Afenyo-Markin described the clerk as a “partisan clerk who is a typical NDC” member.
Speaking to the press after the chaos disrupted the vetting process yesterday, January 30, 2025, Afenyo-Markin explained the addition of extra nominees to the vetting schedule has to be agreed to by the Chair of the Committee and himself.
“The clerk to the Committee is a partisan clerk, she is a typical NDC. She agrees with them (NDC) then she advertises and informs people to come. The practice has always been that the Chairman and ranking member will agree as to who and who will come. Yesterday, there was no agreement. The chairman was with me, no meeting (was held) then in the night 10pm the clerk advertises 10.”
“This morning my deputy was here; they had a pre-sitting. (At the pre-sitting) they agreed to 3 (nominees to be vetted) and later in the afternoon they said 4, and later they said let us comprise on 2 more and they said 5. Just after the sitting they paraded more people (to be vetted),” he added.
Afenyo-Markin pledged the minority group will not boycott the vetting process and see to its successful completion.
