A US-based Ghanaian has expressed shock over discovering Ghanaians are paid monthly wages during her recent visit.
According to her, the extremely low wages coupled with the high cost of living makes Ghanaians some of the most underpaid yet overworked people in the world.
She noted that some Ghanaians working for a company sometimes earn 600 cedis, and the highest earn 1500 cedis a month.
Speaking in a self-recorded video, the US-based Ghanaian expressed her shock, “Ghanaians are nearly the most overworked and underpaid in the whole world. It just truly baffles me that Ghanaians the locals in Ghana who have a job and work for a company or wherever the case may be, it baffles me they are working long hours sometimes over 8 hours a day and they get paid monthly that’s crazy”.
“To top it off the monthly pay is like 600 cedis, maybe 1000 cedis, maybe 1200 to 1500 cedis if you are lucky and have a good job. That is so crazy getting paid every month”, she added.
She further asserted, “What even blows my mind is even more people take dollars in Ghana, so you are nearly basing Ghana’s economy on the US dollar which absolutely makes no sense, because in the US most people get paid weekly, very few people get paid monthly”.
