The minority leader in parliament Alexander Afenyo Markin has stated that the value is the same if the NDC abolishes E-levy and introduces road tolls.
Afenyo Markin asserted that the NDC in opposition committed themselves to reducing levies and taxes.
According to him, the NPP thought when the NDC came they were going to lessen the burden on Ghanaians when it comes to levies and taxes.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament he detailed, “On this issue of road tolls, they say that they are going to do digitalisation, we were of the opinion that they will lessen the burden on Ghanaians when it comes to levies and taxes, because they had committed to it”.
“Now you are going to oppose another levy, so Mr. Speaker when they remove the E-levy they are going to look for the money on road tolls so the value is the same. They claim that they are going to repel the E-levy law, introduce road tolls and even charge more”, he added.
Afenyo Markin further threw a challenge to the NDC saying, “You are not committed to reliving the Ghanaian of the burden you claim was on the ordinary Ghanaian, I want you if indeed you are indeed committed to the ordinary Ghanaian don’t introduce any road toll, Kwame Agbodza told us that they are going introduce road tolls, they are going to introduce more levies, they are going to levy the ordinary Ghanaian more”.
“You take one out and you introduce two more, you take one out and introduce ten more Mr Speaker that is not acceptable”, he claimed boldly.
