Sammi Awuku the member of parliament for Akuapem North has boldly stated that the current electoral system of the NPP will create problems going into the 2028 elections if not changed.
According to Sammi Awuku, it is very clear that people are upset with the current electoral system in selecting a presidential and parliamentary candidate within the NPP.
Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3 Sammi Awuku detailed,” I am all for people who have shown commitment to the interest of the party that when we are going we go with them, when we are crying we cry with them.
“If we leave the current electoral system as it is, that things should be the same for as to head into the 2028 elections it will be a problem”, he added.
Sammi Awuku further revealed, “The current electoral system that is used to select a presidential and parliamentary candidate, it is clear people are upset with that structure. What the voter wants we need to open it up those who are part of the decision-making process must not be a privileged few, but measures must be put in place for people to tick those boxes”.
“You can meet some people, and they will ask you this election which people qualify and how can they also vote, all these things are in the NPP constitution but it has not been enforced in the past”, he stated.
Sammi Awuku expressed his happiness that the NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 elections shares his opinion that the status quo of the party needs to be changed.
“The status quo cannot remain, and I am very happy that Dr Bawumia shares the same view that the status quo cannot remain and he is one of the people who believe something must be done in terms of our reforms and take a position to widen it for people to be part of the decision making”, he reiterated.
