Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7, 2024 polls, Dr. Mattew Opoku Prempeh has announced his retirement as a doctor.
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South Constituency speaking about his life after parliament stated, “life continues. I was somewhere before I came in and I will be somewhere after I have left, life continues.”
When asked if he was going to go back to the hospital following the NPP’s defeat at the polls, he indicated that was his past life.
“No, that life is past,” he added.
During President Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation’s Address (SONA), his aide de camp, collapsed in parliament.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh jumped into action and contributed immensely to delivering first aide to the President’s aide de camp. Napo received applause from the Ghanaian public for his heroics.
When asked why he was not going back to practice when he obviously was still in shape, he stated, “that’s the skill I have acquired so I keep it.”
Prempeh studied Human Biology and Medicine at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, later continuing post-graduate studies at the Netherlands Institute of Health Sciences and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Prior to parliament, he served as CEO of Keyedmap Security Services Limited from 2004 to 2009 and as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2003. He is also a medical doctor/ health work.
