Techiman Central Market on Sunday night January 12, 2025 caught fire destroying hundreds of shops.
The devastating fire that swept through the fi started around 9:15 PM.
Eyewitnesses at the scene communicated their displeasure over the lack of firefighting equipment.
An angry Trader stated, “I don’t know why a whole metropolitan area like Techiman has just one fire tender. If we had two or three, this fire could have been controlled in the early stages”.
Another trader lamented about his investment after taking loan from a bank, he cried out saying, ““All the money I used to purchase these items was from the bank. Now everything is gone. How will I survive?”
The Bono East Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Naomi Ofori Adubea Sarpong has detailed the congestion of the Techiman market was major challenge for firefighters fighting the fire.
ACFO II Sarpong added, “In all, about six fire tenders, including those from Nkoranza, Kintampo, and Wenchi, were deployed to manage the situation,”.
She also added that investigations have begun to determine the cause of the Techiman Central Market fire.
